Pfooph
Mostly an embarrassing mistake:
-
Began as Conservative Conservative, but the oil paint – even when thinned with paint thinner - was too thick or too runny to be used in the syringes.
-
Green tape for circle – tried to apply two layers of green tape to wax paper, tin foil, and thin plastic (all unsuccessfully). Either the material couldn’t be removed from the tape, or there wasn’t enough adhesion left after removal. Ended up taping the bottom of a drinking glass – easily removed but again, problems with enough adhesion left on the tape after removal. Probably should have tried taping the top of the glass… Next time try (yellow) frog tape - single layer – pierced in the center with a thin but large washer & bolt to remove the tape.
-
Syringe – try using Behr latex paint (Home Depot) – paint sample size jars.
-
Palette knives weren’t rigid and/or small enough for the radiants (white, gray, and two shades of red). Next time, experiment with stiff but thin brush.
-
Continually turned (rotated) canvas while painting. Use a lazy susan next time?
-
Pushing hard on the palette knives created an outline of the wooden backing frame – use lighter grip?
-
All paint was thinned with paint thinner. Helped with spreading & less waste, but less texture (relief) achieved.
-
Tape removal – wait for the paint to dry for a few days before removing.

This was one of the earliest experiments with taping non-linear shapes. The outcome was OK for what it was, but many more elegant solutions have been found. A necessary step on the road to finding new techniques and methods.

Pfooph is a possible representation of the female conception of feminine flatulence.
